Reflection on Informative tools

ICT as an informative tool

Definition

ICT as an informative tool refers to the use of various technologies, such as computers, the internet, digital media, software, and telecommunication systems, to collect, store, process, share, and communicate information, there by providing the vast repositories of content to learners through multiple formats, including text, graphic, sound, image and video. Examples of this tools include Learning Management system (LMS), Social medias, databases, websites, multimedia, etc.

some of the various format of informative tool are :

 1. Text

Text, in context of information technology, is a human-readable sequence of characters, words, sentences, and paragraphs that can be encoded into computer -readable formats like ASCII.

some of the benefits of using text are :
  • communication: text is used to communicate thoughts, ideas , and facts in all aspects of life allowing for the sharing of personal experiences and ideas with a wider community.
  • skill development : using text helps learners to develop comprehension and writing skills, and boosts vocabulary and other literacy knowledge.
  • information gathering: text is a tool for both providing and gathering information, which can lead to quick and immediate responses.

2. Image
image is a visual representation of information such as drawing, pictures, graphic, logos and photographs.

some of the benefits of using image are:
  • Images help with memory retention and     understanding
  • Visuals make learning engaging and interactive
  • Diagrams simplify complex information.

3. Audio

Audio refers to sound that is transmitted, recorded or reproduced including speech, music and other sound waves that can be heard by humans.

Benefits of using audio are:
  • It helps to build imagination and creativity in listeners.
  • Helps strengthen memory and comprehension (Recorded voice narration on the PPT)
  • Promotes Accessibility & Inclusivity

 4. Video
Video is a sequence of moving images combined with audio to create a visual representation of a story, concept or event.

Benefits of using  video are:
  • It improves learner retention
  • It enables microlearning
  • It makes content widely accessible
My understanding on ICT as an informative tool
  • Based on my learning, informative tools provide up-to-date information in different formats such as text, images, graphics, sound, animation, and video, making learning more dynamic and interactive.
  • These tool allows both teachers and learners to access a vast amount of knowledge and resources from around the world. Through tools like Learning Management Systems (LMS), social media, databases, websites, and multimedia platforms, learners can explore topics in greater depth and at their own pace.
  • Informative tools provide up-to-date information in different formats such as text, images, graphics, sound, animation, and video, making learning more dynamic and interactive.
  • They also help in developing learners’ information literacy skills—the ability to find, evaluate, and use information effectively. Informative tools promote critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving by giving students opportunities to research and analyze real-world information.
  •  These tools also support different learning styles—visual learners can learn from charts and videos, auditory learners from podcasts and recorded lessons, and reading/writing learners from online texts and articles.
  • Additionally, they encourage collaboration and communication through online discussions, group projects, and shared digital spaces. By integrating informative tools, teachers can create a more engaging, student-centered, and inclusive learning environment that connects classroom learning with the real world.
Application of informative tool in lesson

I will use informative  tool in my classroom for different topics to enhance students understanding and interest in learning.

for example :
I will use text and images, for designing  a learning activity for primary children with relevant learning materials and resources.

Class: IV
Topic: Degradable and non- degradable waste
Activity: Segregate degradable and non- degradable waste and write reasons for their answer.

Use of one slide presentation
I will also use one slide presentation  with
text, image and sound so that students can easily grasp the concept and show interest in learning.
The one slide presentation will help  to break down complex information into simple sentence for easy understanding and long remembering .

Class: 3
Subject: English
Topic: Domestic animal

Steps:
  • Firstly, i will open new power point  presentation  and write the topic and class on the slide.
  • secondly, i will insert the picture of domestic animal and  use text to write their names .
  • thirdly, I will also download their sound and use it together, as shown below.

As a future educator, it is important to integrate informative tools in teaching because they make learning more engaging, interactive, and meaningful. Using ICT as an informative tool helps teachers simplify complex topics through videos, infographics, and animations. It also encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning and builds essential digital skills needed in the 21st century. By blending technology with traditional methods, we can create an effective and inclusive learning environment that supports all learners.
